Fit Business Insider

I’m going to start this off by saying that I fully expect many of you to disagree with what I say here.

Oh well.

Talk about personal training certifications and you’re bound to get a bunch of opinions and some people get pretty worked up over it.

I’ve heard plenty of fitness professionals complain about people being able to get certified in a 1 or 2 day weekend workshop or do a home study certification.

I’ve also heard a few guys scoff at people when they created their own certifications.

This is where I’m about to lose half of you.

Get over yourself.

See, coming from working in a University setting – this is how we looked at the educational hierarchy:

Level 1: Certification

Level 2: Associate Degree

Level 3: Bachelor’s Degree

Level 4: Master’s Degree

Level 5: Doctorate

Ummm, which is the lowest in this hierarchy?

Yep – Certification.

The Fitness Empire Strikes Back

The Fitness Empire Strikes Back

I remember the days of “walking the floor” in a health club as an “exercise instructor” hoping to land some clients.

It wasn’t for very long – and it was a long time ago – but it was enough to turn me off a career as a personal trainer for quite some time.

Yes, I was one of those guys who somehow ended up being a tech-support rep. I don’t even want to get into it. I’ll tell you about it some other time.

But I never would have worn that stupid headset answering questions from angry customers for three years if I had known a fraction of what I know now.

And what do I know now?

Anyone who is willing to take action and educate themselves can make BIG coin in this industry.

I remember getting to work everyday and being absolutely miserable. That phone would start lighting up and I’d weakly say to myself, “I’ve got to do something else with my life. There’s got to be more to life than this.”

That’s why it breaks my heart to know that there are so many trainers out there right now who are struggling when they could be creating an EMPIRE for themselves.

I know they’re either:

Barely making a living

Working part-time and dying to find a way to do what they love – help people get fit – full-time.

Making a nice living but breaking their backs working crazy hours just to do it.

It’s why I’m such a BIG believer in camps and clinics. I just don’t understand why some trainers refuse to accept it.

The more people you can help at the same time the better.

And I’ll tell you what:

You already know I LOVE the boot camp model. That’s a given.

But for those of you who train athletes, well, you’ve really got it made.

Speed camps are HUGE. And with the world going sports crazy they are only getting bigger and bigger.

So when my friend Patrick Beith told me he was running a mentorship group on EXACTLY how to create a Speed Clinic Empire I got a little misty eyed.

It’s the perfect solution.

You see, I got my start working with athletes when I was in college at the University of Delaware. I was only a volunteer but was in charge of the programs for the Men’s Lacrosse and Women’s Volleyballs teams.

It was then that I sat for the CSCS exam. It was also then that I realized I was going to have a tough time making a living as a strength coach. Well, that was my perception at the time.

Look, I could go on and on about my story, so I’ll make it more simple. I have a special place in my heart for those who work with athletes.

So I told Pat that I wanted to do something special. I wanted to offer my readers $100 off his program as a special incentive to take the plunge.

He agreed, but only for a short time. In fact, the special deal he created for my readers ONLY expires this Saturday, January 12th.

You can check it out here:
http://www.speedclinicempire.com/labadie.html

It’s not a small investment. But it’s an amazing program. There’s nothing that makes me hesitate to fully recommend it. The instructors are world-class. And they are great human beings.

Oh, and even if you already run boot camps you should seriously consider this. Too many trainers have a limited vision of what their business can be.

You train adults. Don’t you think a lot of them who have kids who play sports?

So set up another division of your business. Create an EMPIRE.
Create multiple streams of moolah. Leverage your time.

There is so much opportunity out there. Don’t let it slip through your fingers. Make the most out of your life. Make the most moolah you can doing what you love.

Why the heck wouldn’t you?

Again, the deal for my readers can ONLY be found at http://www.speedclinicempire.com/labadie.html

And it expires this Saturday, January 12th.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie
http://www.speedclinicempire.com/labadie.html

PS – I cannot stress this highly enough: The instructors are world-class. And they are great human beings.

PPS – One last time, the deal for my readers can ONLY be found at http://www.speedclinicempire.com/labadie.html

And it expires this Saturday, January 12th.

Every Seventeen Minutes

Allan Boshell is a good friend of mine. As nice a guy as you could ever meet.

Well, bad things happen to good people.

But those same people take action to make things better.

And Allan has done that in a BIG way.

How many people do you know have created a charity AND spoken in front of Congress about funding?

Allan has.

He’s an amazing guy with an amazing story.

Please read the entire email from Allan below.

Then take ACTION to make this world a better place.

You know I love ya.

- Jim

********

Dear Jim,

Today, I need your help in a big way. Let me explain and please read this entire letter even though it’s a bit long.

As you know, two years ago my wife Patty died from pancreatic cancer. This is the most devastating form of cancer.

And although we had only four years together ours was a marriage that can only be described as a true, love story.

When you were at my house recently in Boca we talked a bit about Patty. I really wish you’d had the chance to meet her. She was an inspiration to almost anyone who knew her.

Patty flew airplanes. She rode the backs of elephants in Africa. She canoed the far reaches of Thailand.

She even traced her mothers’ family roots to Japan. Even though her life was cut short it was a well-lived, passionate life.

Patty taught me much about embracing every day and to smile no matter what.

In fact, her life and sadly her untimely death inspired and changed the life path for many of her close friends. In particular was her friend Lisa Young.

Lisa had a nice corporate job but deep down inside her was an artist screaming to be let out. Merely days before Patty died Lisa and I sat at Patty’s bedside.

Lisa was describing what Patty’s life had represented in comparison to her own. And now, with her best friend only days away from death she had made a decision.

She was going to start living the way Patty had lived – fearless, happy, passionate.

First, Lisa was going to leave her corporate job and paint full time (become a real artist she said).

Second, her first paintings were to be for a design of cards that she wanted to sell and donate all of the money to charity. Do good works and honor her best friend Patty.

Incredibly Lisa and I sat there while this beautiful, dying woman selected the logo that would go on the back of these cards.

In her last days Patty was eloquent, elegant and never once desperate.

We talked about how the logo would be used. She compared colors and designs. She was as clear and precise as if she’d be here forever.

And it was there that day Jim that the roots for what would become the Patty Boshell Pancreatic Cancer Foundation www.pancreaticcure.org were put down.

We didn’t know it yet but this was going to be a big deal.

Patty died 5 days later.

Shortly afterward and with the help of some incredible people the organization came together. The Patty Boshell Pancreatic Cancer Foundation www.pancreaticcure.org is now two years old.

I’m happy to say that in our short existence we’ve raised enough money to get the attention of one of the nations largest and most active non-profit organizations. That organization is the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).

And now, we have committed to working with them and others to wipe out this killer disease.

For 2008 and beyond Patty’s foundation will underwrite several research grants known as career development, research merit awards.

The awards are organized by PanCAN and are for $100,000 each.

They are judged under the strict guidelines of the American Association of Cancer Research. Awards go only to scientists who devote 100% of their time to the study of pancreas cancer.

You probably don’t know it but pancreatic cancer is the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S.

Yet this deadliest of cancers receives only about one-tenth the (less than any other) funding for research as the others.

Jim, in the next 12 months 37,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

In the 12 months that follow that diagnosis 34,000 will be dead.

The rest will die in less than five years. Yes, for now at least, this diagnosis is tantamount to a death sentence.

I’ve recently been and will return to Capital Hill to lobby for better research funding.

Yet, the real difference is going to be made by ordinary people getting involved and doing extraordinary things.

We need a grass roots effort to raise the voice of advocacy for the families and victims this terrible disease strikes each year.

We need research for early detection, treatment, and prevention. Research costs money.

That is why we, the members of Patty’s foundation have made such a large monetary commitment with the merit awards. But we need to go further.

This year, we plan to raise $1,000,000 to benefit pancreatic cancer research.

We can only do it with your help and the help of others.

Jim, what I’m asking you to help us do is this. Help us get this message out and with it the opportunity to make a real difference in peoples lives.

Our goal is to have 1 million people see this message and the message posted at:

http://pancreaticcure.org

Jim, we need everyone who sees this message to pass it along to everyone on his or her list.

1 million visits to http://pancreaticcure.org is our goal.

Please help us reach our goal by sending this to your client base, your friends, customers and your Internet business associates.

Ask your contacts to simply read this letter. Ask them to go to the website and just read about our cause.

They can decide if it is something they want to be a part of and if so moved make a contribution.

Our entire board and staff are volunteers. All of the donations are used for research.

There is even a contest for those who visit.

If we can get 1 million visits to http://pancreaticcure.org and only 2.5% makes a $40 donation we will reach our goal of $1,000,000 this year.

You’ve never let me down teaching me how to go for it and win in business. You’ve shown me the power of the Internet.

Now I’m asking you to ask everyone you know to go for it, demonstrate that power, the good will of people, and support our effort to wipe out the deadliest cancer on earth.

Thank you for reading this long letter and thank you for your support in the past and on this important effort.

Sincerely,

Allan Boshell

P.S. Here again is the link: http://pancreaticcure.org

P.S.S. Every seventeen minutes someone is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. 75% of those live less than 12 months from hearing that diagnosis. 95% live less than 5 years. Please, help us make a difference. Ask every client, trainer and friend you know to circulate this email and go
to http://pancreaticcure.org Thank you.

I'm A Smart Guy But…

I’m A Smart Guy But…

…there’s one thing I don’t really understand…

Perceived Value.

Why is it you give something incredibly valuable to someone for NOTHING and they don’t make the most of it?

For example, oftentimes when you offer zero-cost intro sessions to people to try your service they don’t show up for their appointment.

Why?

Well, the easy answer is they didn’t see value in it.

But what’s the underlying reason for that?

I don’t know.

I don’t care.

I just know it’s true.

You should FEEL the same.

It’s exactly the reason I’m raising the price on my http://HowToProfitWithEmails.com to $149 TODAY.

Since trainers add me to their newsletter list all the time – without asking me – I see the God Awful stuff they put out over and over.

The product sells great. I just think trainers don’t realize just how lucrative their newsletters could be.

In fact, most have NO CLUE.

Because if they did, they’d be a LOT better.

Which gets me to thinking.

Maybe I need to raise the price a couple hundred smacks to get my point across.

Regardless of what your current newsletters look like, I still love ya.

Yours in prosperity,

PS- Yup, http://HowToProfitWithEmails.com goes up $50 for sure TODAY. Maybe even more.

Fast Food, Guns and Benjamins

Fast Food, Guns and Benjamins

Have you ever heard of someone at a fast food restaurant being forced to eat a Big Mac at gunpoint?

“Choke down that Whopper right now or I’ll stick this Uzi where the sun don’t shine.”

The world is getting crazier and crazier but I haven’t heard of that going down.

From what I understand we do have a choice what we put in our mouths.

Or am I missing something?

I was watching a commercial the other night and saw a promo for AT&T. Apparently they are giving a $300 cash back bonus or something to people who sign up for their service.

The commercial showed people on the street being asked what they would do if they were given 300 smackaroos right there.

“Go on a trip.”

“Take my girlfriend to an expensive dinner.”

“Get a new outfit.”

Now I certainly don’t know what all the responses were. And I’m confident that not everyone was going to rush out and do something stupid.

But I get this funny feeling that the responses they used were:

A- Pretty typical

B- Exactly what the average chuckle head watching would say

Something tells me not too many people answered, “I’d spend it on business education so I don’t have to work a stupid job anymore and think that 300 wheels is a lot of green.”

You get the idea.

There are people in this world who really deserve sympathy and have things much tougher than I ever did. Those people deserve help and compassion.

And then there are people who are just plain idiots.

So ask yourself point blank: If I were offered $300 out of the blue, what would I do with it?

Well, for one thing, you could spend 99 of it on my http://HowToProfitWithEmails.com before it goes up to $149 on Monday, January 7th.

Do you have any idea how much that investment would pay you back?

I do.

PS- I got so jacked up writing my “Is Roger Clemens A Steroid Freak” on Friday I totally forgot to spell check it before I sent it out. Dang!

Is Roger Clemens A Steroid Freak?

Is Roger Clemens A Steroid Freak?

I don’t know the definitive answer to that. But I do have a guess.

Doesn’t matter as it’s not the point of this email.

The points that do matter are:

1- The “60 Minutes” Interview of Clemens will be airing this Sunday night.

2- He’s going to be all over the news.

3- That means PR potential for just about every trainer out there.

4- It also makes for great email newsletter headlines.

Please read #4 again.

Did you open THIS email to find out if Roger Clemens is, in fact, a steriod user?

Do you think some of YOUR readars would likely open an email with the same subject?

Did you know I’m raising the price of my http://HowToProfitWithEmails.com to $149 this Monday, January 7th?

Well, you do now.

And if you think that one will little tip above will fill your fill your bank account with smacks then you’ll be tripping over your wallet when you get the whole bowl of soup at http://HowToProfitWithEmails.com

Who loves ya on a fun Friday? ;-)

Confessions Of An Email Addict

Confessions Of An Email Addict

I’ve got to come clean.

I feel the need to confess.

I’m an addict.

If there’s one thing I could consider myself addicted to it’s Email.

I’m not sure how it happened or when.

But it did.

And the first thing is to admit I have a problem.

I have been checking it way too often for far too long.

So I’m testing something out.

I’m only checking emails on Mondays and Fridays.

Not exactly what Timothy Ferriss recommends in The Four Hour Work Week, but it’s a start.

So far, so good.

I feel a HUGE burden lifted from me.

It is amazing how refreshed I feel.

And I’m already much more productive.

Not only am I getting more work done, but it has also helped me pinpoint areas where I can delegate more.

Please understand, I’m not taking this lightly at all.

Once you get caught up in email it blows your whole day. At least that’s what it does to mine.

We’re all addicted to something. Just because it isn’t drugs or alcohol doesn’t mean it isn’t an addiction.

It might not be lethal like a drug or alcohol addiction.

BUT if something is interfering with the pursuit of your dreams then you better believe it’s a SERIOUS issue.

So your first homework assignment for 2008 is to search your soul and find something negative you are addicted to.

You might be addicted to CONTROL and not willing to delegate because of it.

You might be addicted to FEAR and don’t act because of it.

You might be addicted to ONE-ON-ONE TRAINING and refuse to earn more while working less because of it.

You might be addicted to FEELINGS OF UNWORTHINESS and not leading as prosperous a life as you could because of it.

You might be addicted to ENERGY VAMPIRES without even knowing it. And because of it you’re so used to having the life sucked out of you by negative clients you don’t even notice it anymore.

The first step is admitting you have a problem. I ain’t kidding.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie
http://velvetropereferrals.com/

PS- Break your ENERGY VAMPIRE addiction NOW:

“When Jim Labadie first taught me about http://velvetropereferrals.com/ I was hooked instantly because I KNEW it would allow me to train exactly who I wanted to work with.

I had a waiting list of people to train with me when I didn’t even own a gym, all my training was in a small dungeon like garage or outdoors at playgrounds. Everyone thought it couldn’t work, but it did, and it worked BIG time.

This past summer I opened my gym, and, did the biggest mistake one can ever make, and that is to see what other facilities are doing as well as listening to family and friends. Dan Kennedy will say the same exact thing.

So, I loosened up my Velvet Rope principle because I wanted to pack in clients. BIG mistake!
I began working with clients that were half way committed; they showed up half the time and then disappeared.

I also went through a dry season, where I wasn’t getting any new clients at all. The law of attraction worked against me until I went back to doing what worked.

I started putting up the Velvet Rope, I began turning down clients who seemed less than 100% committed or whose parents were the type that seemed to interfere with everything I did.
In the past month my gym has boomed with new clients and we’re busier than ever before.
Most importantly, I am back to working with the clients I WANT to work with.

If you’re not using the http://velvetropereferrals.com/ system it is highly likely you have clients who are half assed and they are probably NOT the type of client you REALLY want to work with.”

The Doggone Difference Personal Trainers Need To Know

The doggone difference is THEY understand that their most precious commodity is TIME not moolah.

The doggone difference is THEY understand they can have whatever they want, so long as they help enough other people get what they want.

The doggone difference is THEY understand the importance of creating automated businesses that allow them to create even more businesses that allow them to make the most of their most precious commodity.

The doggone difference is THEY understand the importance of squeezing every smackaroo out of their customer base as possible by delivering incredible value time and time again.

The doggone difference is THEY understand the importance of building relationships with other successful people.

The doggone difference is THEY understand they simply cannot care what others say or think about them.

Who is THEY?

You know the answer to that.

The real question is: What do YOU plan on doing in 2008 to join THEM?

Ya know I love ya.
