Fitness Business Growth. A post by Nikki Layton
We are always looking for new and creative ways to grow our fitness business. Here is a way that you can capitalize on all advertising that Hollywood does for its films to help you get new clients.
Call your local cinema and find out if the run ads before the movies. You know that time when everyone is sitting there eating popcorn with butter, this is your opportunity to connect and tell them what you have to offer. How you are going to change their lives?
You won’t have a lot of time as your slide will only be up for a limited number of seconds, but it will rotate in from of them numerous times while they are waiting.
The key is the message, normally when you create an ad you would follow a format that looks like this:

And then would be followed by the solution and other points that look like this:
Hot Buttons headline
Description of hot button/problem – you need to get them nodding their head, what you write they need to connect with
Solution and call to action – what you offer that will solve the hot button and why they need to take action now.
It needs to be specific not just call us but call us before Dec 15th to sign up for our pre-Christmas bonus!
With the movie slide you will not have that much time you will have to push a button and then go straight to a call to action. Here is an example of one we used:
Our hot button headline could have had a little more pain associated with it, “February is Heart Month” is a bit of a soft button. A more compelling headline might be “Live Longer, Strengthen your Heart”
Then on the call to action we could have written, “To celebrate heart month come to Momentum Fitness and exchange your movie ticket for a free fitness class. Valid till Feb 28!”
I hope this helps you think about a new way that your fitness business can get in front of people that are already coming to your area of town and offer them a free class or week in exchange for their movie ticket. Depending on the size of your town you may have 1 or many cinemas, find the local one that is close to where you run classes and start there. You may even get the cinema to put your website on the ticket or let you leave cards/flyers at the concession stands for the month you are advertising with them. The key is that you have to ask, they may have never thought about offering that as an option with their advertising but if it is better for you ask! Perhaps you can make them the business of the month and then all the people that work there will be talking about the classes they have attended as well.
Good luck and remember that you want to be tracking where your new members are coming from so that you can see what is effective and what isn’t. If it isn’t effective try changing the message a few times before you give up on the medium.

Great idea Nikki! I was just at the movie theatre a few weeks ago and was thinking about checking into this. Did you guys see a good return on this form of advertising? Thanks for the post Nikki!
With phones not allowed in theaters, and people forgetting about anything but the end of the movie afterwards, I’m guessing no. Actually had a client try a movie ad and got zero calls. The “exchange your tix for a free class” is brilliant though!
