Personal Training Business Success Made Easy

A Post On Personal Training Business Success By Pat Rigsby

Just the other day I was on the phone with one of our best students taking about several things that he wanted to work on his personal training business.

Honestly, he sounded overwhelmed.

Now this isn’t some guy just trying to get a business off the ground – his business has gone from zero to over $25,000 every month (more than $30,000 in some months) in less than 18 months.

But still – he sounded like a guy that was beaten down.

And really it all boiled down to this: he wanted to improve about 6 or 7 things in his business and he wants them all done now.

The word perfectionist comes to mind;)

So I shared a simple exercise that Nick and I used to do religiously with him – and I’ll share it with you now.

At that stage in our business life we essentially had 3 business components:

  1. Our personal training business & smoothie bar in Elizabethtown.
  2. Our health club in Owensboro.
  3. Our online based business that consisted of some coaching and products.

On Monday we’d meet for 15 minutes and pick one component of our businesses in Elizabethtown to improve during the next week.

On Wednesday we’d pick one component of our health club to improve.

Of Friday we’d pick one specific thing to improve about our online business.

The next week we’d pick something else for each.

Pretty simple huh?

One week we might change our price presentation.

The next it might be our upsell script.

Another week it could be how we did our assessments.

Or it might be something as simple as adding an autoresponder sequence for new members or clients.

But every week we did something.

Now we obviously had to keep working IN each of these businesses – and we often sought ways to improve each of them outside of the meeting…

…but that simple little meeting and commitment to improving one aspect of our business each week worked wonders.

Think about it – over the course of a year that’s 52 business improvements.

Little things add up.

So when I was talking with this gentleman last week I told him to pick one item each week and fix it.

Let the others things he wanted to worry about just remain how they were and see one all the way through to his satisfaction each week.

Because I didn’t want him to do what we all too often do when we have a number of things to do – get paralyzed not knowing where to start.

Just pick one thing and get it done.

Next week do another.

I fully expect him to have his business running like clockwork and bringing in $50,000 a month in no time using this approach – and I know it will work just as well for you.

So do me a favor and tell me below the one thing you’re going to improve this week in your personal training business and if you need any help from me – be sure to let me know below as well.

Baby steps is what it’s about. I need to improve my website,

I will try your approach and see how that works for me.

Tom – have you posted this in the BCBP Forum?

We need details to give solid feedback. Post as much info as you can there and we’ll respond in the forum so all BCBP members can benefit too – and we’ll get on the phone if needed.

    Thanks!

I’d be more than happy to refer for you but I managed to delete the link page by mistake. Oops! Is there any way i can get it back?

    BIG thanks!

  8. Hey Pat,

Great post. This week I am working on my marketing – Specifically the creative promos I got from the BCBP. My goal is to give away as many sessions as possible to fill my 3 new camps for June so July is a bumper paid and full camp month.

July is also historically the quietest month in the Fitness Business in England so i’m looking to give that trend the boot.

    Thanks heaps!

    Si.

This week we are focusing on organizing our 10th anniversary party for our personal training studio – http://www.mfit.ca and in Volo we are preparing for a special joint webinar with Fizio software. Very exciting things!

  12. Ryan says:

We’re in the middle of a pilot program.. for now it’s all about this group. Multi-tasking has proven the #1 way to kill my progress.

  13. I started a small group personal training program in DC back in 2003 that made the club $20k/month and is still a huge success to this day. I agree with the mindset away from group ex into small group training.
