Personal Trainers – Dominate Your Competition The Easy Way

Personal Trainers Dominate

I have to thank one of my subcribers for this idea.

So thanks to Matt Warren of Colorado for writing me the following quick note:

“Sometime you need to write an email about cheesy personal trainers who pose on their websites with their shirts off – total turnoff and creates a disconnect with the masses (not to mention the husbands who’s wives they hope to train)”

It immediately got me to thinking about a conversation I had with Nate Green recently. And in case you don’t remember, Nate is the 22 year old fitness entrepreneur phenom I wrote about last week.

Anyway, as Nate was talking about his astonishing success he was most amazed at something other than the results he had achieved.

Nate was amazed at how easy it was.

Now make no mistake, there was hard work, sacrifice and discipline involved.

But aren’t there lots of people who work long hours for little pay who work hard and sacrifice with no real light at the end of the tunnel?

Nate and his business partner Sam Glauber worked hard for awhile and are now reaping the benefits.

Again, a 22 year old personal trainer who runs his own personal training studio with complete business systems was most amazed by how easy it was to create.

So getting back to Matt’s point about “cheesy”  personal trainers.

How many of those do you know?

With so many knucklehads in this industry it’s actually incredibly easy to dominate your market.

And here’s something I want to point out to you. It needs to be clear as day.

If you spend more time b*itching and moaning about all those cheesy Personal Trainers and how they are ruining your profession than you do celebrating the fact they make it so easy for your to be successful…

…well, you’ve got some thinking to do.

WHOA! 22 Year Old Fitness Pro Phenom

On Monday I wrote about a video I was going to show you of a super successful 21 year old fitness pro.

I need to apologize because he is MUCH older than I thought.

The Fitness Pro is Nate Grean and he’s all of 22 years old. Not 21 like I thought.

Nate’s business partner, who I also know, Sam Glauber is the senior citizen in their company at the ripe old age of 24.

They’ve recently opened Emerge Fitness Solutions in a major ski-resort town in Montana.

Sam’s going on vacation to Hawaii and Nate’s headed to Belize for a few weeks of relaxation.

Because of the systems they have in place their business will be just fine without each fitness pro.

If you’d like to be even more amazed I suggest watching this video real quick. Be careful your jaw doesn’t hit the floor when you hear how many hours each fitness pro works each week.

So how old are you?

Personal Training Business Tip: Look in a mirror

Personal Training Business Success

It’s Like Looking In a Mirror

There’s a good chance you own several pairs of sneakers.

There’s a good chance you own a heart rate monitor.

There’s more than a good chance you’re reading this email in workout attire.

There’s a good chance you never go anywhere without a bottle of water.

There’s a good chance you have trained at least a couple clients today.

There’s a good chance you’ve run a boot camp this morning.

There’s a good chance you’re working on your first fitness info product right now.

There’s a good chance you’ve been working out since you were a teenager.

There’s a good chance you used to have a “real” job, or have been told to get one.

There’s a very good chance the fact a person can become a certified personal trainer by taking a weekend course p*sses the he## out of you.

There’s a very good chance you aren’t making any dough at all.

There’s also a chance you are making pretty good loot but you’re working yourself to death to make it.

So what on earth does this mean?

Simple.

I know the person I am writing to when I send out my email newsletters like I know myself.

How well do you know the person who is reading yours?

I love ya no matter what. icon wink Personal Training Business Tip: Look in a mirror

Micheal Moore Is An Idiot – become part of the new health craze: use Prograde

You’re underpaid.

I’ve written about it extensively in the past.

My friend Kevin Gianni made me aware of the below link in his newsletter today.

You can either watch the 5 minute video or read the blog entry yourself.

It will shed a whole new light on the “sick” care industry and why Michael Moore is an idiot.

You’ll understand this more after you see what I’m talking about…

You have to believe all things are possible. You have to believe that everyone can win. You must. We all must.

And you’ll also understand why you’re underpaid.

****

By the way, with all the known health benefits of essential fatty acids, why wouldn’t you want to earn commissions by selling a product like Prograde‘s EFA Icon to your clients?

Is the autoship program and the 30% ongoing commissions to tough for you to handle?

Selling Personal Training: What if they email you?

Selling Personal Training tips

Recently I had a fitness professional ask me what to do if a prospect emails them looking for more information.

Great question.

As you may already know, I’m a BIG believer in emotion based for selling personal training.

Why?

Because people buy for emotional reasons much more than logical ones.

Problem is, that getting people emotional via email is just about impossible.

So the key is to email them back and find out when they can talk. Additionally it’s a good move to let them know how long you would like to talk for.

Why?

Because you’re going to need at least 5 minutes on the phone with them to find out how good a prospect they really are.

In other words, are they just kicking tires or are they serious about this.

And I’ll tell you right now these two things:

1- If they won’t even talk to you on the phone I’d be 95% certain they are a tire kicker.

2- If you DO get them on the phone and they don’t seem to have any passion for change or real desire to do the work to get the results they claim they are seeking, well, I would pass on meeting with them.

6 Things I’ve Noticed with Fitness entrepreneurs – Part Three

Today is Part Three in the series of “6 Things I’ve Noticed About Successful Fitness Entrepreneurs”

5) Fitness entrepreneurs don’t try to force creativity

Now some will tell you if you’re not feeling creative to just sit down and start working and it will come.

And I don’t disagree with that completely.

But I have found that there are times when your best “stuff” just flows. And if I’m trying to do something creative and what’s coming out of me is terrible, well, what the heck is the point?

If I need to go back and re-do it all why wouldn’t I have spent my time doing something more productive?

Creation comes from flow. And if yours is blocked the important thing is to remove it by doing whatever gets you back into the flow.

For me it’s watching the ocean. What is it for you?

6) Fitness entrepreneurs focus on high-profit/low-hassle

I think this is the most important AND the toughest.

Entrepreneurs have tons of ideas and they all seem terrific when they strike.

But most of them aren’t worth your time. Prioritize them in the order of what is going to bring in the most loot with the least amount of work.

It’s a skill unto itself. But when you get it down you can spend a lot more time staring at the ocean!

The summer of the average personal trainer

The summer of the average personal trainer

Summer is coming. It will be here before you know it.

And you know what that means for the average personal trainer.

Yeah, the potential for some sleepless nights due to lack of income.

Clients go on vacation and you go to the poorhouse.

It can be pretty scary, I know. I used to live in that reality.

So knowing full-well it could happen to you again this year, what have you done to prepare?

Have you seriously increased your income and the time you have to spend building your business by running boot camps?

Have you created some passive income streams through fitness information products of your own?

Or perhaps you’ve studied internet marketing and you’re making some good coin by promoting affiliate programs.

What have you done to build you list?

Maybe you’d done the smart thing and become a Prograde trainer. You’re already making moolah recommending:

- The whole foods based mulit-nutrient complex, VGF 25+

- Powerful Omega 3′s in the form of EFA Icon (which by the way kicks the you know what out of standard fish oils)

- Varsity Post-Workout drink so your clients are making the most of their efforts by getting the research recommended protein to carbs blend critical for optimal results.

Oh, and did I mention that Prograde’s auto-ship program means you don’t have to worry about inventory.

That’s right, once you educate your clients about the benefits of these high-quality nutritional products you don’t have to lift a finger.

http://www.getprograde.com/

So, what are you doing about the upcoming summer?

Are you going to be relaxing by the pool knowing your business is running on auto-pilot?

Or will you be sweating it out hoping to be able to pay your rent?

Don’t worry, I’ll love ya no matter what. icon wink The summer of the average personal trainer

Ryan Lee, Jim Labadie and all of you who post on this site.
On January 1st of 2007 I was living in my car. Last year due to an injury I lost everything – business, finances, home. The only things left over from my training business were my PTU Gold CDs.

New Years was a turning point. I committed myself to my dream and remembered that if I hold to the vision the Universe will provide.

I begged, borrowed and scraped together $$ for a new website and PTU membership (see my priorities!) I contacted old clients whom I had not contacted at all while depressed. Picked up a few locally again – just enough to eat and pay rent to start.

Last week I signed 3 new online corporate clients to annual contracts! That’s $89 per month per employee (37 total) plus $75 per hour for on-site work. All from free Lunch & Learn seminars that I offered. Another tip from Jim!

I just went over $3000 per month from my back-end nutritional sales. One of my clients was so impressed with her results that she paid $1100 for 17,000 inserts to go into the local paper promoting my business. She’s a self-made millionaire and I would drive to her house with my exhaust duct-taped up to my car. Why did she do this? She told me ‘you changed my life but mostly it was your attitude.’ I never spoke of anything but success and she told me this inspired her to do better in her life. Her words ‘Winners support others dreams and visions.’ Wow!

I decided to leverage the exposure. I bought Jim and Phil Lally’s Boot Camp CD set (3-4 other trainers in the area have been ‘threatening’ to do Boot Camps for months – I am now the first!). A couple trainers at the local gym made fun of me for spending $127 for CDs. Let’s see… FIRST DAY after listening I found 2 sites, put 3 Boot Camp dates up on my site and got the local TV station to agree to cover the area’s first ever ‘Beach Body Boot Camps’. One mention in my e-newsletter and the classes are half-filled already. I put them on the newspaper inserts already!

$127 investment. Pretty small to make $88 per person per class and get all the extra exposure. Oh yeah, and leaving the other trainers in the dust… priceless!

Speaking of my newsletter… twice monthly and I am getting ready to go over 1,000 subscribers. Just from promoting a simple free report on ‘Setting and Achieving Fitness Goals’. Got that tip here on PTU several times – finally put it to use.

By the end of April or early May I will be living my dream. Over $10,000 per month and doing nothing but online training (getting ready for my big Fitness Generator launch next week – watch out local trainers!), boot camps and back-end sales. My goal is 100 clients monthly. I have the 37 already!

My first e-book is almost done! I no longer take in-home clients. Instead I mentor and train younger trainers who want to change lives. I teach them assessments, sales and provide the clients from my hits on my site. At no charge to them! Instead they simply provide clients my nutritional supplements. I have a friend (two-time national Karate champion) with a struggling Martial Arts studio. I now promote his studio and he promotes me. I am teaching him how to market from what I have learned here. Win-win. Love it! I remember Jim saying at one point that it ain’t about the money – it’s about the dream. Focus on what you want and the Universe will provide. I want to empower and inspire.

I never would have accomplished anything without listening to Ryan, Jim and so many others. My goal is to be the Barry Lovelace of Western PA!!! My mission is to empower and inspire others to new levels of fitness.

I owe my success to all of you. The posts. The tips. The support. My belief in myself and my mission came just as much from here as anywhere. Thank you. If ever I can help anyone with anything… just contact me!

Fitness Sales for strength and conditioning

Fitness Sales

As you probably know, I’m a big believer in emotion based selling.

I know from experience that finding a prospect’s emotional reason for wanting to hire a trainer closes sales. And closes them fast!

And it’s especially easy for the typical prospect who wants to lose “X” number of pounds of blubber.

But what about athletes? What kind of emotional reason would they have for wanting to hire a coach who improves athletic performance?

Well, what if they didn’t start varsity last year after training all off-season. And after all that work they weren’t any faster or stronger because they didn’t know what they were doing.

What about an athlete who was injured last year and lost their starting spot?

Or what about an athlete who has a lot of heart but just keeps getting his a** handed to him by bigger stronger guys or girls.

See what I mean? Think you’ll find some emotion there?

Believe me, you’ll find plent to help with your fitness sales.

Fitness Business Public Speaking Secrets

If you aren’t doing any public speaking to promote your fitness business I highly suggest you start right away.

There are a ton of networking and civic organizations that meet weekly and need speakers. More than likely, you’ll need to do it for free, but there’s no cheaper or faster way to grow your client base.

The biggest mistake I used to make when I started public speaking, with the hopes of selling my services, was taking questions at the end.

Why is that a mistake?

Simple. The talk you give should be designed to have a very strong ‘close’ at the end. You can’t do that if your talk drags on and on with endless questions from people trying to get free advice from you. Hey, I’m sure you’re a great person, but this is a free talk. You can’t give it all away for fre.e when you’re running a business.

So what do you do?

Take questions in the beginning. That way you can answer them as you go along to make sure everyone is happy. And you’ll never run out of content either, so it will help with any fear you may have about speaking. Plus, it allows you to make a strong ‘close’ at the end to let everyone know you’re looking for clients who are ready to make great changes in their lives!
