Although I enjoy a six-figure income as a personal trainer and owner of a sports-conditioning facility, I find myself “spinning my wheels” when it comes to having enough time to complete and follow-through with my many marketing ideas designed to build large group classes, products and seminars so I have more free time. I’m not afraid of hard work (14 hour days to support a wonderful wife and my two adorable daughters) but I go to bed every evening knowing that I didn’t get to half the projects needed my attention. I love reading your emails – they have helped keep me focused on building financial independence. Keep up the great work.
I need reliable outsourcing talent to help with editing (copy, photos and video) and graphics so I can finally complete all the half-finished products I have waiting. – Stephen
Lack of time! I have painted myself into a corner!
I have a very strong in home business. Part of that means I am training – all the time. I have a blog and a membersite that combined with training, programming, family, church create a very unbalanced lifestyle.
I won’t sacrifice my home life, church or my biz so I end up neglecting my online biz. I feel stuck.
I need to figure out at what point I begin to leverage my time and outsource some of my duties. I don’t mind doing a lot, but at times it seems to be too much.
Is it easier to hire a VA to do some of the office duties or easier to hire a trainer to take on some of the training? My guess is a trainer as you can make money off of their time as well, but I would love to hear what you guys have to say about it?
You guys are awesome and your influence is greatly appreciated. I honestly believe I am slowly making progress but never fully catching up to speed, possibly due to info overload. Once I fully gain a concept for marketing, sales copy, techie stuff, etc., a new idea comes along and I get so easily discouraged and distracted with my current progress.
How can I fully plug away with building my business without getting distracted by the next ‘new thing’ and constantly switching gears, or is that part of being a successful business owner? I am trying to take this venture to the next level. But, my emotions are affecting my ability to see the bigger picture, which should be my continued progress and growth as a fitness professional! Any suggestions would be appreciated!
My biggest problem?!? Probably figuring out which d*mn problem is really the biggest one that is going to cause the biggest headache if not taken care of – which probably comes down to figuring out prioritizing the problems.
One problem is the setting up reproducible systems for training staff to follow and execute for both marketing and training. Trying to balance the need for standardization versus the desire to allow some individual flexibility is a hassle!

My problem has been I have every time I try to get going something happens like getting laid off from work and then all hell brakes loose. Having my own fitness business is my dream and my passion but not sure that I’m in an area where it will thrive and now nothing about running an online business.
I have spent 12 years building a very successful training business but am having a hard time figuring our how to transition myself slowly out of the day-to-day operations and into more of the behind the scenes logistics. I would like to spend more time marketing and building the business and less time training clients. I have tried a couple of times by slowly integrating other trainers, only to watch attendance drop and clients discontinue because they only wanted me. How do I clone myself?
My main concerns are being able to retire and continue to make money with my business and brand. I want to learn multiple revenue streams while maintaining my main focus of dominating my market in boot camps.
Exactly the same as Sharyn. Information overload! I don’t know which thing to do first.
Organization and focus.
I have a quote that floats thru my mind again and again, “These 40 things I do or thuis one thing I do well…what shall it be?”
Distractions, perceived important events, interruptions are the largest deterrent to progress in my world. Minimizing these would be a huge blessing.
Thanks,
SP
I will be starting my FIRST EVER bootcamp Feb 17. and I want to be sure to “over” deliver. Right now all my campers expect is 4 weeks of training and a basic nutrition plan. I want to offer some more stuff to make them “raving” fans. All I have thought of so far is a folder/packet bootcamp that will include a bootcamp introduction letter, a grocery shopping checklist, a food journal, and a journal for weekly assessments. Any other suggestions?

I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the day to day, moment to moment issues that I don’t “periodize” my future business plans. I feel as though I need a little bird on my shoulder to remind me every day to put 30 minutes in to developing my ideas.
Thanks,
Sarah
@John -
Hey John I love your boot camp site and the Joomla applications you had. who is your web designer and what is their website? That is if you don’t mind sharing. Are you in the BCBP also? You can email me personally at CTSbootCAMPS@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon. take care
I have a lot of knowledge but it seems like there is always too much to do. I have started outsourcing but it still seems like there is an endless list of to do’s.
Creating systems is definitely a must and I understand the concept (Fit Business Revolution is great) but having an actual template of the systems would be real helpful. With so much going in it much easier when you just have to change or build on a already successfull system.
I am set on building a brand and having it work for me rather than me “always” working for it.

I love receiving your emails every morning you are so motivating Pat!
My biggest problem is transitioning out of a fitness trainer and into running my business? Without having my bootcamp classes go from full to zero any suggestions?
We train high school age and under athletes: is there an effective way at instituting a referral request system with this age group being that they are not the ones signing themselves up and paying the bill?
There are just never enough hours in the day…..
I run a full service gym and have 6 employees for the desk, 4 trainers, and 6 group instructors. The problem is that there are so many little things that happen in the day I have a hard time keeping my arms around it all and keeping track of the important things.
I hired an outside trainer and the two of us designed a completely business within our existing business. We are getting out of one-on-one training as it is just not working. One thing I can say if if you have trainers working for you it is probably because they are not good enough to work on their own….so, I created a system for them to live in.
The biggest question must be how the hell do you take old dogs and teach them new tricks? I am having some difficulty with trainer egos and inability to produce results….they have the same fat people follow them around for year after year getting little to no results but will not change what they are doing!!! Our new system will work for people and everyone loves it. The problem is the trainers will not embrace it or put 100% in. They also dont want to put any time in to learn new things Can I teach them or should I replace them?
Basic question but causung me problems,,,
Clients tend to find it all to easy to cancel sessions, sometimes I wish to tell them that I dont wish to train some of them anymore due to lack of commitment, which is devastating to the business. When they cancel sessions within 24 hours I role the session over. This is a loss to me at the end of the month. Should I set up a policy which there is no cancellations. When a client pays 16 sessions for one month of training x4 a week. Then these must be taken in that month or they are void. What are your rules, Thanks all, maybe im to understanding!!!!
There are so many amazing things happening in my business, and now I am working on a DVD and a book.
I find the internet business is just not taking off for me. I try to promote Prograde, Isagenix, I have used them and promote them but my people find them really expensive.
Also my list is just not growing at all.
I have 700 people and have had them for a while. My people love my emails, refer to me, but I am not getting a constant flow of new subscribers!
Thanks you guys, you have gotten me where I am so far……..
My biggest problem is deciding which avenue to pursue first. Would a DVD, Book, Internet Coaching, or other project be the most profitable to begin with? I have limited funds and an over-full time job to support my family until I can switch over to my own business full time. Any suggestions?
I’m starting a playground fitness class for grown-ups this Spring. I want to conduct each class at a different playground in the area. What legal steps must I take in order to use these sites?
You must first get approval from the playground owners. Follow that up by contacting your liability insurance provider to make certain that you’re covered.
Hey John – are you training now or are you only talking about online revenue streams?
Phyllis – Do you ask your subscribers to refer friends? Do you use a blog to build your list? Do you do things offline to build your list?
Without knowing what you’re doing now to build your list it’s tough for me to suggest new things that might work better.
Lee – Telling someone that they must use all sessions during the month is an approach that should work but this is what I’d do…if someone doesn’t give you 24 hours notice the first time, warn them. After that, they’re charged for the session. Simple enough.
Sarah – commit to do it for the next 100 days…30 mins per day NO MATTER WHAT. After that you’ll have made so much progress that you’ll follow this plan for as long as you’re in business.
B – All those are solid ‘added bonuses.’ Add a blog with a camper of the week being featured. Otherwise you’re all set.
Steve – We’ll do a video on some of the strategies I use soon!
Dale – that’s a tough one. You can’t ‘close’ yourself because no one cares as much as the business owner. The key is minimizing the dropoff through good staffing and thorough systems. Do you have systems in place now?
Hey Rob – Could you start with a part-time fitness biz?
helllo..my english might be not very good!!i have a gym in greece (in sparta)!i have the best products of all the gyms in the city!everyone says tha we r the best gym of all!the personel is very good!why people prefer to join another health club than our’s?what sould i do!!help please..thank u!!
