What Works… Still Works For A Fitness Business

A Fitness Business guest post by Justin Yule…

A lot of blog posts on www.FitBusinessInsider.com are geared towards helping fitness professionals start-up and/or grow their business to a point of…let’s call it… “sustainable success.”

Of course, success is different for everyone, but generally speaking most fitness professionals, especially boot camp owners like myself, strive for that illustrious 10K per month club.

This post is going to be a little bit different.  It’s geared towards fitness businesses that have already reached and comfortably maintain $10,000 per month in revenue.

10k What Works... Still Works For A Fitness Business

Now, don’t get me wrong, I like making 10K per month.  I like making 15K per month even more. J  And, by working with Pat & Nick and getting involved in everything they do (Bootcamp Blueprint, B3, Fit Business Insider, etc.) I’ve done just that.

In fact, in the past year, with their help, I’ve been able to go from a start-up local boot camp business to a thriving 15K per month major player where I live– trust me, the big boys in town have noticed.

However, for me, it’s time for the next level which is why I’m working more closely with Pat & Nick, and have gotten involved with their mastermind group.

Yesterday, I had the unique opportunity to spend the day with Pat & Nick.  Well, actually, I only got a few hours with Nick because as your reading this he’s on his way to Cabo, Mexico.  He may even be hanging out on the beach right now with Sammy Hagar.  ;-b

Anyway, we had a lot to discuss as we’re working on a special project together.  However, when it came to going over my fitness business and doubling it in 2011 it all boiled down to one thing…

“What works still works.”

In other words, all the things I did to build my fitness business from a dream in my head to a consistent 15K per month business will get me to 20K, 25K, 30K, and beyond!

Think about it for a second…

Pat & Nick continually teach us fitness marketing techniques that are proven to work, right?

Here’s the short list:

  • Flyers
  • Bandit Signs
  • Articles
  • Press Releases
  • Blogs
  • Public Speaking
  • Joint Ventures / Fusion Marketing
  • Facebook Ads
  • Craigslist Ads
  • You Tube Videos
  • Referrals
  • Business of the Month
  • Networking

Well, to get to the next level, you just need to do the same thing on a bigger scale.

  • Distribute MORE flyers
  • Post MORE bandit signs
  • Write MORE articles, press releases, and content rich blogs
  • Do MORE public speaking
  • Create MORE joint ventures and fusion marketing opportunities
  • Pay for MORE Facebook ads

Are you getting the picture?

Just because you’re making more money and running a bigger business doesn’t mean you need to go out and spend a whole bunch of money on big branding and hit-or-miss advertising.  That can be a recipe for profit wasting disaster!

Your larger advertising budget would be much better spent on:

  1. Hiring an assistant to free up your time for more advertising
  2. Incentivizing your current raving fan clients to bring you more leads & referrals

I mean, we work our butts off to build our fitness businesses doing all the “guerilla type marketing” and direct response advertising that works only to fill our schedules so much that we can’t keep doing what got our schedules full in the first place.

Read the previous sentence again. It’s a mouthful, but it’s EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

So, long story short, if your a fitness professional who’s built a successful fitness business following Pat & Nick’s advice and business model, then take some more of their advice, and DO MORE OF WHAT’S WORKING.

HAVE FAITH & TAKE ACTION!

    Justin,
I remember just a year ago this past August when my wife and I met you @ BCBC in Kentucky… you were basically figuring out how you were going to make +5K a month. Brau, you TRIPPLED YOUR INCOME in a little over a year! Bravo my man! Thanks for the post.
    YOUR 30K is on it’s way…
    Peace-
    Matt

    whats a “bandit” sign??

  7. Great post, Justin.

I agree and a takeaway here is hire an excellent and motivated admin. People try to be cheap and think, “I can just do this all myself”. No you can’t. Not if you want to grow past a certain level. If you delegate systematized tasks to an admin, that hourly pay you put into the admin will return to you 10, 20 or more times.

If you try to do it all yourself, you experience diminishing returns and eventual physical and emotional burnout. Everybody loses then. Clients lose because your head isn’t in the game properly, and you lose market share as someone who is willing to delegate and work ON the business will out-compete.
