One of the most powerful things I’ve ever heard my buddy Dax Moy say:
“You get paid for ‘DONE!’
It doesn’t matter if you’re running a personal training studio, a fitness bootcamp, a health club or an online fitness business – you only get paid once something is done.
You don’t get anything for having a great idea.
You get nothing for creating a plan.
You don’t make a dime for getting started.
You only get paid for getting something done.
You can’t imagine how many fitness pros I talk to that have great ideas for products or know exactly what they need to do to grow their business.
They just struggle to get things done.
There’s no shame in that.
But there’s no money in it either.
So how can you get more of those projects and high return activities done?
Well, the first thing you have to do is make time for them.
And don’t say you can’t make time.
Zach Even-Esh runs a gym, has a membership site, trains athletes, has multiple infoproducts and runs his own Underground Strength Coach certification.
Oh yeah – and he still teaches school full-time and has a wife and two daughters to spend time with.
So how does he have time to build his Underground Strength Coach ‘empire’ – he works when most other people won’t.
Zach is up early before school working and he stays up late working until well past midnight.
As busy as he is – if he can carve out a couple hours a day to grow his businesses, pretty much anyone can.
So schedule at least 45 minutes of uninterrupted time a day for a project until you get it done.
The second thing you need to do if you want to get the BIG stuff done is to put on blinders.
You have to stay focused on something and chip away at it until it gets done.
I know how easy it is to see a dozen opportunities staring you in the face and start on all of them – and get none of them done.
The problem with this is that you put in just as much work but you don’t get paid.
If you want to get more clients, knowing a dozen fitness marketing strategies doesn’t help anything.
Better to implement one marketing strategy for your fitness business and tweak it until you get it right.
Once you get that strategy in place and running on autopilot, move on to the next one and do the same thing.
That approach will always get you more personal training clients.
If you’ve got great ideas about building a successful bootcamp…get the camp off the ground ASAP and bust you’re a%$ until you’ve got an acceptable number of campers. Don’t lose focus and start worry about the great idea for an e-book you just came up with.
If you’re trying to build your online fitness business the same mindset applies.
Quit trying to think of cool new products and focus on getting your first product done and selling it. Once you have consistent sales in place and a steady flow of traffic – now you can start thinking about all the follow up fitness products.
While this may seem boring at first – once you get into it I’m pretty sure that you’ll learn to love it and find it far more rewarding. You’ll get a lot more done…and make a lot more money.
So here’s your action plan: pick one area of your fitness business or one project and focus on it. Spend about an hour a day (more if you can do it) to improve that area or finish that project. Keep going until you get that project done.
Then it’s time to get paid;)

I have to catch myself trying to do to much at once instead of focusing on one thing at a time. And I have learned from you guys to take the biggest ROI start there and work your way down the list. Thanks guys!

Great Reminder Pat. It is easy to get caught up on several projects. Smart to focus on most important and work until it is achieved.

Oh how this post speaks to me!!!
Listening to Eban’s Wake Up Productive program – learning about the power of focus – that it is okay and a million times more productive to work on ONE task at a time – specifically in a 50 minute block of time.
This is my NEW challenge for the week!
NO more MULTI-Tasking.
Staying focusing and Getting Things DONE!
